THE FORGOTTEN WAR REMEMBEREDEverywhere people turn they see veterans of the Korean War. But they don't know it as these fine gentlemen walk quietly through history without being noticed. Their inner pride serves as the foremost acknowledgement of the duty they performed. Fellow veterans notice them as all veterans understand the sacrifices necessary to honor your country by serving.
THE FACTS A giant piece of America was greatly affected by the Korean War. 33,741 Americans died, 92,134 wounded, 4,820 missing in action, 7,245 prisoners of war, 2,847 died in POW camps, and 389 POWs known to have been alive after all U.S. POWs supposedly returned. Korean war veterans have certainly paid the ultimate price for freedom. They've just done it very quietly. Source: NARA FILE#: 111-SC-422077, www.defenseimagery.mil photo no. Green, U.S. Army ."When it seemed that . . . machine-gunner [Corporal Leonard Hayworth] was shattered beyond all hope, a black-jawed, smiling old veteran crawled over . . . Sitting shoulder to shoulder with the younger man, he calmly told him how they were still holding the line . . . The grimy old veteran talked a feeble smile back upon the face of the corporal. Tears still streaked his face up under his helmet where the rain could not wash them away, but the Old Marine seemed not to notice. [Korea, September 1950.]" This Is War!
